Places — and people — inspire Eric’s altogether industrious and adventuresome spirit. The crystal clear lakes of his native Canada. Ambergris Caye, just off the coast of Belize. The hotel GM who changed Eric’s career path by inviting him to step out of audits, and into hospitality. 

Watching his father, an entrepreneur who successfully built and sold stock trading systems, Eric learned early on that if he wanted something badly enough, he possessed the power to make it happen.

Anything is possible. Even outrunning an elephant on a South African honeymoon safari, an experience Eric lived from the driver’s seat, right beside his wife. Outside of guiding every financial goal here at Makeready, Eric and his family have an annual goal of their own: Visit one new country or island every year. So far, their global adventures are enough to make even the most well-traveled swoon — climbing Mayan ruins, touring South Africa’s Drakensburg mountains, river tubing in Belize. 

Even professionally, Eric lives for the journey. His earlier career spent working with two well-known audit firms might have been a roundabout way to the hospitality industry, but sometimes, the long way is the best way. While Eric was auditing a hotel, the hotel General Manager offered him the comptroller position, and Eric accepted. An outside-the-box thinker through and through, working alongside this GM illuminated in Eric a new perspective, a more creative way of problem solving that he still taps into to this day.

Eric’s ethos, his inspiration, is possibility. Home life is no exception. Growing up in Uxbridge, Ontario, helped form Eric’s love for all things outdoors, namely for the sunny weather he now enjoys in Texas. On a typical weekend, Eric can be found hiking forested trails with his wife, landscaping, boating, skiing, swimming — anywhere outdoors, doing anything that holds possibility for adventure. 

While his latest endeavor includes joining Team Makeready, for us, and for Eric, it’s what’s next that’s most exciting. On his list? Galapagos, Machu Picchu, the Egyptian pyramids, and more. On ours? With Eric as our guide, we’re bound to go far — to places we can only imagine.
