Good to meet you
Makeready is guided by a carefully collected group of independently-minded leaders. We are committed to empowering curiosity through all that we do. With expertise ranging from strategy and design to branding and operations, we are equipped to do any job. But above all we are consummate students of our craft—dedicated to learning from every endeavor, and building momentum along the way.
Christine Magrann is a gardener. A garden takes care, it takes hard work and respect, and even if you get it just right, a garden takes time. It is not something that happens overnight, because the secret of the successful garden is not just what you put on the surface, it’s the work you put into the soil.
At first blush, you might think Brett Orlando is a bottom-line guy. His fierce get-the-job done attitude is as much a part of him as his native New York accent and infectious cheshire cat grin. But spend more than a moment with him and you’ll quickly realize what gets him out of bed in the morning goes well beyond the task at hand. Brett is driven by his desire to inspire those he works with—every single day.
Stay positive, and anything is possible. A perfect mantra, and Brian’s guiding force in all he does, not just for himself, but in leading others. While sales and marketing tend to be goal- and results-oriented, Brian’s personal goals include celebrating, teaching and inspiring his team every day.
Rebecca is a pioneer. An explorer. And a believer that good hospitality is inherent—that people either have it in them, or not. Having grown up in Saudi Arabia, traveled all over the United States, attended college in England and spent time with family in both the UK and Denmark, we believe she’s beyond qualified to make that call.
Places — and people — inspire Eric’s altogether industrious and adventuresome spirit. The crystal clear lakes of his native Canada. Ambergris Caye, just off the coast of Belize. The hotel GM who changed Eric’s career path by inviting him to step out of audits, and into hospitality.
Comfort food comes in all forms, all rich with flavor. The best recipes are rich with historical and cultural significance, too—maybe even a few family secrets. Crab stew comes to mind when Wes Morton thinks of comfort food and of his own history.
Work hard. Stay humble. That is Frank in four words. Since the principle of simplicity has inspired his life’s work as a chef, we couldn’t help but try and boil down exactly what makes Frank so good at what he does. Dedication. Humility. And, a lot of practice.
At age 10, Christine found her creative soul in Greenwich Village. Growing up near New York City, Washington Square Park and Bleecker Bob’s Record Shop became hideaways she’d sneak to as often as possible, absorbing the street style, visually cataloguing ideas she could make her own. The cool, creative energy was magnetic.
Free-spirited. Wholehearted. Powered by something we all possess and should tap into more often: Perspective. Even with a creative vision in sharp focus, Riley sees the big picture, making him the perfect keeper of all Makeready brands.
Molly loves design. And dancing.
Dance, much like design, is at its best when familiar meets freestyle. When repetition meets the unpredictable. When one woman is moved by both old-school hip hop—and Irish music.
Kristie will be the first to tell you that inspiration comes with variety. And it probably won’t surprise you that someone with a curator’s eye and skill set seeks that inspiration in her travels. Whether abroad or just down the street, Kristie is always paying attention. She puts a high value on what she can learn from the materials, cultures, and people surrounding her. Most especially those with a different point of view.
Maybe it’s his Southern roots, or his abiding love of people. Either way, William is big on relationships. Being one of ten siblings, both biological and adopted, and all of whom he loves dearly, could have something to do with it, too.
Growing up in the great wide open can teach you a thing or two. For Scott, the steady fresh air of his Alabama upbringing taught him the importance of slowing down, and appreciating the world around him. The essence of hospitality, he now helps others do the same, whether he’s making our team or our guests feel completely at ease.
Liz knows people. Her curiosity and patience have guided a lifelong study of their strengths, shortcomings and spirit. Part detective, part explorer, she understands the importance of experiencing other cultures and doing things differently. And she knows full well the value of hard work—that it’s a means, not an end, for defining what we love to do.
Kathryn spends weekdays and days off in the same place: Outside the box. A hiker, gardener and explorer of new cities, she’s known for creative problem solving and masterful multi-tasking—and, always keeping her cool under pressure. A steadfast believer in her own personal growth, we’re thrilled to have Kathryn helping to push the limits of what we can achieve together.
Whether heading to Paris, France or Paris, Texas, Kathi adores adventure. Closer to home, alongside her daughter or friends, she explores museums, galleries and restaurants. Her love for travel explains why Kathi’s worked in hospitality for over 30 years. And her appreciation for numbers and new worlds explains why Monopoly (played as banker, naturally) will always be her favorite game. Kathi’s the perfect teammate to keep us growing—and playing by the rules.
Michael’s done the math: Face-to-face meetings are still the best kind. Even with myriad systems made to keep us all ultra-connected, there’s no substitute for his seeing firsthand how people, places and those systems work together.
From minding the books to backing our on-site accounting teams, this Gun Barrel City, TX native stays ready for anything. Placing a high value on kindness, she tackles challenges with a smile, and whether she’s wrangling expenses or shaping her two daughters into strong young women, Heather’s determination keeps her (and us) going. Her reward for a job well done? Napping like a pro, or dreaming by way of a good book.
Matt’s more than a numbers guy. He’s a true believer in hospitality, understanding that humbly caring for others is the most gratifying work there is. He champions teamwork and bringing people together, whether bridging Makeready’s finance and operations teams, or planning dinner for his wife and friends. During downtime, Matt refuels outdoors: Cycling, golfing, hiking, snowboarding—taking on any physical challenge requiring positive momentum, much like he brings to Makeready every day.
Chris has loved computers since he was young. A father now himself, and a California-born, Hawaii-raised appreciator of French hospitality and culture, he also loves connecting with people. At Makeready, Chris wires up everything we need to keep our teams humming and to give our guests the best Wi-Fi possible. At home, he unplugs with family barbecues, music and his guitar—or by watching the Kansas City Chiefs do what they do best.
